SO GOOD!!! We walked in at 6 PM on a Friday night and were seated immediately but by the time we left at 7, there was a wait. The full staff waits on all the tables so if you need something, you can ask anyone. They are ON TOP OF IT! Constant water refills, lots of people checking in to make sure you're good. It was really nice. We had the Chongqing popcorn chicken (offered with regular or light spice - we went regular), the black pepper beef, and the spicy pork potstickers. Everything was DELICIOUS! The potstickers are HUGE and exceptionally flavorful. It's served in a bowl with chili oil. We ate it too fast to get a picture. :) The popcorn chicken was the signature dish and you can smell it the second you walk in. It totally lived up to the hype. The spice level was amazing to start - although by the end my partner's bald head was GLISTENING! Lol. The portion is HUGE - easy to share with at least one person but honestly could feed more! The black pepper beef was sensational! Thin sliced steak, green and red pepper, and onion. You can REALLY taste the black pepper, especially on the sautéed onion but honestly in everything. Served sizzling and with rice. I ate a pretty considerable amount and I was expecting to have multiple pieces that were gristly but only had one! 10/10 Totally recommend!
The food at chili spot was so delightful. Most dishes were extremely spicy but very tasty at the same time, each with a distinct flavor profile. We tried quite a few dishes , my favorites were probably the cumin lamb and the black pepper beef. The popcorn chicken was the spiciest dish we got and it was almost inedible. The atmosphere at chili spot is very clean and spacious with a lot of seating area to accommodate larger groups. One thing that was a little unfortunate was we felt rushed out of the restaurant before we had finished our meal, despite there being plenty of empty tables around us and no one waiting to be seated. I'd still go again and recommend chili spot though, because the food was honestly worth it.
Chili spot is a Chinese restaurant located in university city. As in the name, expect to have your taste buds spiced up! I came for lunch one day and ordered their Saechuan style short ribs, hot and spicy shrimp, and fried tofu with special sauce. The ribs and shrimp were spicy but fried very well and were quite flavorful. The fried tofu was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside and the sauce was definitely special! I couldn't stop dumping extra sauce onto my tofu and rice. This was a great meal to have on a snowy day. The service was fast and I look forward to coming back!
We went to dinner for the first time last night and WOW! This place is amazing and no nonsense. We had the wontons (must order) and shared other dishes such as popcorn chicken, pepper steak, Mongolian beef, and eggplant. Everything was delicious and a favorite. Service is no nonsense. Staff check in for water refills but are not going to stop by to ask if you need something. Speak up if you need anything and they are very friendly and accommodating.
Nice little parking next door. Large tables if needed. The food came out quickly and it all was very tasty. My favs. Garlic beef. On a sizzling plate. Beef was so very tender and so very tasty. Mongolian beef. Beef was also tender and tasty. These two beef dishes maybe my fav. Kung pao chicken. Very tasty. Kung pao shrimp. Very tasty. Popcorn chicken. It was good, not greasy. It was definitely spicy. Fish. Very tasty. Potato. Interesting dish. Potato was shredded and crunchy. Pot stickers. It was good. Average. Appreciate that the food came out fast. Took awhile to get the checks. Overall recommend and I can't wait to return!
I discovered this place from someone's food blog who travels internationally. I belive he is of Chinese descent. In this blog, he said this is the best place in St. Louis for Chinese food. I have to say, he was absolutely right. Right in the heart of what I would call St. Louis' Little China, this place is small, but has enough seating for sure. I had the Tofu, which I know what you're thinking, yuck. Well my wife who doesn't like Tofu couldn't stop eating it. It's fried and in a sauce but it's not firm tofu. My wife had the Black pepper beef. OMG!! Soooo good. It was so tender and delicious. There is enough food on 1 plate to share, so it would be great with a group....who doesn't mind sharing anyway. The food was served super fast too. Do it!!!
My fiancé and I tried Chilispot for the first time a couple of weeks ago and really enjoyed our experience! The staff were friendly, attentive, and helpful. We were delighted by the large portions (we had enough leftovers for lunch the next day!). The food was flavorful and filling, their menu is expansive so you can't go wrong with any of their dishes! The ambiance was low key and cozy, very family style restaurant which is nice. Overall, we look forward to trying more of their menu soon!
If you like szechuan: walk, don't run to chili spot. St. louis does not have much in the way of szechuan, but chilispot delivers. The restaurant itself gets busy on weekends and boasts extensive wait times, I recommend waiting. The service is solid and portions generous. I love their cucumber salad, signature popcorn chicken, and wontons. I haven't had a bad dish yet. The dishes give you an incredible tingling heat that is so addictive. The flavors are rich and vibrant while still being hot. The chicken dry pot is loaded with chicken, szechuans, cauliflower, and some other miscellaneous goodies that taste delicious but I have no idea what they are. Looking to try something new? Or, looking for some heat? Chilispot has you covered, and you will not be disappointed.
Overall, if you want authentic Chinese food, this is a great spot to check out!! WAIT TIME: Came in for a 1:30pm lunch on a Saturday, we were seated immediately FOOD: We split the kung pao chicken and an order of spicy pot stickers. Portions are large so that was more than enough for the both of us! Everything was very well spiced and tasted excellent. Came with plenty of rice to complement the chicken portion. Highly recommend both dishes SERVICE: The people were all so pleasant, they greeted us and thanked us for coming when we left. Everything was smooth DECOR: You can see in the picture. Pretty normal PRICE: Very well priced for the amount food you get! Kung pao chicken was $17 and spicy pot stickers were $10, so roughly $15 per person. And again, we left very full so portions are large for the price
